Looks pretty tasty hu? Ok so it looks gross, but it taste yummy. I doubled my stew recipe and then filled up 6 Quart jars and canned it. It you don't have a canner and are wanting to get serious and can food, then go buy one....it is well worth it. You can buy them at Wal-Mart for like $60. The whole process does take a few hours, so for me I'm going to start making every Wednesday my canning day. Let me know if you have any questions.

Why get prepared??
For those wondering why I'm getting the word out to get prepared, here is an article about how the US dollar is loosing value, which mean inflation will happen. The Feds are printing money....people things are going to get rough.
Laundry Soap
So if I can't afford laundry detergent I don't want to stink, so I bought 3 CHEAP ingredients so I could make my own.
Here they are:
Yep, Washing soda, Borax and a bar of Zote. Here is the recipe:
Powdered Laundry Detergent
2 cups Zote soap bar (finely grated)
1 cup Washing Soda
1 cup Borax
Mix well and store in an airtight plastic container.
Use 2 tablespoons per full load.
Dishwasher soap
Powder Recipe
1 cup Baking Soda
1 cup Borax
For the above two recipes:
Mix thoroughly and store in a plastic container, use approximately 2 TBS per load.
Use vinegar in the rinse compartment as a rinse agent to help prevent residue
So easy hu?? Ok so I just bought the stuff, I haven't made up the detergent yet, I just want it on hand so when the time comes I will be ready!!
Canning Syrup
I canned syrup 2 weeks ago. It is very simple, here is the link to the blog I found it on. Yes it is easy to make so why can it, you may ask. Because what is sugar prices get way to expensive. Well I will already have some yummy syrup ready to go.

Lets Get Prepared
I know most think I'm a radical right winger but I consider myself to be an informed individual, who wants the best for my family and this country. People, this country is headed down a path that isn't pretty and instead of being in denial or not worrying about it now, why don't you take the "Be Prepared not Scared" challenge with me. I sure hope I'm wrong and that everything will be ok but, I'm realistic and the facts are the facts. Our country is in serious debt, the economy is terrible and guess what that means.....we have to hit rock bottom before it gets better. So instead of freaking out and being "scared" for my family, I'm going to do my best, with the little money we have and get "prepared" for what could possibly be a melt-down of our society. I've been doing lots of research and trying to find simple, easy ways to start getting things in order. I found this great outline of getting your 3 month supply in 12 weeks. Please check it out and lets do this together.
So I'm going to update this blog every week and share with you what I'm doing to get "prepared". As we do this I would LOVE to hear your thoughts and ideas as well.
We are a nation of strong people who care and want to do the right thing. So lets encourage our family, friends and neighbors to all get "prepared" as well. We the people can get this great nation back on the right track......we can't rely on the government to help us. Just hard working Americans like you and me.
Here we go =)
